Poor rail infrastructure worries Govt

Mushota Mpundu-Government says there is urgent need to overhaul the entire railway infrastructure to effectively contribute to the Government’s desire of producing over three million tonnes of Copper.

Transport and Logistics Minister FRANK TAYALI says government wants to tap in the European Union fund to revamp Zambia’s obsolete railway infrastructure.

He says government’s ambitious agenda for the mining sector can only be attainable with a good railway and road infrastructure.

Mr. TAYALI disclosed that President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA will lobby his counterparts in the region to see how best they can benefit from the EU fund to develop an interlinked railway network to meet Zambia’s robust economic recovery agenda.

Reflecting on UPND’s first anniversary in office Mr. TAYALI has told ZNBC News in Chingola that the railway sector has so much potential to grow the Country’s economy.

He described the UPND’s first year in office as unprecedented owing to major gains made so far.
