POOL TO GO TO SCHOOLS

The Zambia Pool Union -ZPU- plans to roll out the sport in schools next year.

Newly elected -ZPU- President VICTOR KONIE says the introduction of the Sport will be done in partnership with the Ministry of Sport and other line ministries so that athletes are groomed from a young age.

KONIE says once athletes are nurtured from a tender age, the country will have a pool of athletes that will take over from the professional players and represent the nation at various regional and international events.

Speaking to ZNBC Sports News in an interview, KONIE said the New Executive has immense plans for the Sport and paramount is increasing women participation.

He said with the All African Games coming up next year, the Union is looking to field a strong women’s National team.

KONIE stressed that all participation fees for Women in local competitions have been waived as a way of empowering the female folk.

And, KONIE said tournaments for people living with disabilities will be introduced in order to promote inclusion adding that provincial structures will be put in place in order to take stoke of the growth of the game.
