Police warn of counterfeit fertiliser on the market

Police have unearthed a scam in which some unscrupulous people are manufacturing and supplying counterfeit fertiliser.

Deputy Police Public Relations Officer DANNY MWALE says Police received a tip off from a concerned member of the public that some people were seen supplying suspected fertiliser at a named Agro Shop on Freedom Way in Lusaka’s Central Business District.

Mr. MWALE says police immediately moved in and conducted an operation in which 60 by 50 kilogram bags of Compound D Fertilizer suspected to be counterfeit were recovered and one suspect arrested.

He says interrogations of suspects led Police officers to SOS area where 250 by 50 kilogram bags of Compound D fertilizer were recovered from a proprietor of a named fertiliser company who was also arrested.

Mr. MWALE says police have since submitted the samples to Mount Makulu Research Centre for analysis while two suspects remain in custody.

This is according to a statement availed to ZNBC News in Lusaka.
