Police Update:Heavy Table caused death of pupil

Martha Banda-A heavy table is believed to have fallen on JONATHAN KASONGO, the 4-year-old boy, who died after an accident at Lusaka’s Damishael Christian Academy.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that JONATHAN sustained head injuries, which led to his death on Thursday, June 9, 2022.

Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, DANNY MWALE has confirmed in a statement, saying the table fell on JONATHAN on Wednesday, June 8, around 14.40 hours.

Mr MWALE said this was while JONATHAN was playing with his friends in one of the passages at school, where the heavy table was, and police suspect NO FOUL play.

Meanwhile, parents and some education stakeholders have weighed in on the matter, calling for enhanced safety of children while at school.

The stakeholders have called on the Ministry of Education to start routine inspections of schools, both private and public.
