POLICE CALL FOR PEACEFUL ELECTIONS
By Christopher Miti:
The Eastern Province police command has appealed to political parties to inculcate the message of peace to their followers as the country heads for the election.
Senior Assistant Commissioner of police in-charge of operations at the Eastern Division headquarters Kennedy Chibwe says political parties should preach peace so that the work of the police is not overburdened.
Speaking during a consultative meeting with political parties in Chipata , Mr Chibwe said police will deal firmly and fairly to those that will breach peace during the campaign period.
He further said the police will continue engaging political parties before, during and after the general election.
Mr. Chibwe has since urged political parties to come up with campaign schedules to avoid clashes at venues for political campaign meetings.
The meeting was attended by the ruling PF, UPND, MDC, NDC, Socialist Party, UNIP, DP among others.
