Police arrest suspects behind killing of mobile money agent

Arnold Tutu-Police have arrested two people in connection with the death of EMMANUEL NYIRENDA, the Mobile Money Agent who was found dead in Katete District recently.

Deputy Police Public Relations Officer DANNY MWALE says the suspects have been identified as CHARLES PHIRI aged 54 and JOSEPH CHIPEPO PHIRI aged 27 both of Chipata District in Eastern Province.

Mr. MWALE says the two suspects are related as Father and Son.

The deceased was reported missing on June 10, 2022 around 14:00 hours and his body was found on June 11, 2022 around 07:00 hours near the Airstrip in Katete District.

Mr. MWALE told ZNBC news in Lusaka that initial investigations revealed that the victim was murdered in Chipata and his body dumped near Katete Airstrip in Katete District.

MEANWHILE, a 72 year old woman identified as MARGARET KANYEMBA of Kabyobyo village in Siavonga District has been shot dead by unknown people at her house.

Mr. MWALE says the shooting incident occurred on June 18, 2022 around 20:00 hours in Siavonga District.

He says Police officers who rushed to the scene found the victim lying in a pool of blood in front of her house.

The Deputy police spokesperson says the victim was rushed to Siavonga District Hospital where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Mr. MWALE has told ZNBC news that preliminary investigations indicated that the deceased was sitted on the verandah alone when an unknown person shot her and sustained gunshot wounds in the head.

The body of the deceased is in Siavonga District Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem.

Police have instituted investigations into the matter.
