POLICE AFTER STOLEN VEHICLE AT ECL’S RESIDENCE

By Mary Kachepa

Several Police Officers are at former President EDGAR LUNGU’s premises in Lusaka’s Ibex Hill area to conduct a search for an alleged stolen motor vehicle.

The search warrant is for former First Lady ESTHER LUNGU.

But Lawyer MAKEBI ZULU said the police cannot be allowed to search the premises of Former President LUNGU because he enjoys immunity.

Mr. ZULU said the police should state whatever the issue of the investigation is and if at all ,it is on the premises it will be availed to them.

He further said the correct procedure is for the police to summon former First Lady ESTHER LUNGU to answer to the allegations and she will be availed to the police .

Mr. ZULU said if the government want to conduct any search, they need to go to parliament and lift the immunity of former President LUNGU.

He said he engaged the police who said the property is not in the name of the former President but Mr Zulu argued that search warrant must then be issued in the name of the owner of the property.

Earlier Patriotic Front Vice Chairperson for Information and Publicity EMMANAUL MWAMBA said according to former President and former First Lady the police arrived at the premises before zero six hours and they requested that their lawyers be present before
any action can be taken.

And Deputy Police Spokesperson DANNY MWALE said he will issue a statement soon.

Around 11 hours this morning police brought a toll track to take down the gate to access the premises but later abandoned the mission.

The toll track is still at the premises but the generator has been switched off and the other supporting equipment packed.

Leader of opposition in Parliament BRIAN MUNDUBILE said if government wants to search the premises of the Former President a motion must be taken to parliament so that MP’s can debate the matter.

Meanwhile Patriotic Front -PF-cadres are at the scene chanting slogans in solidarity of Former President EDGAR LUNGU and former First Lady ESTHER LUNGU.

Busses ferrying the PF cadres have been arriving at the premises from about 11 hours .
