PLUNDER PROBE MAKES PROGRESS-MWIIMBU

BY MARK ZILIGONE

Home Affairs and Internal Security Minister, JACK MWIIMBU says the joint investigation team instituted to probe cases of national plunder and asset recovery has made great strides.

Mr. MWIIMBU says the team has also made remarkable progress in cases involving asset recovery and corruption.

He says the joint team comprising the Zambia Police, Drug Enforcement Commission, Anti-Corruption Commission and the Financial Intelligence Center is also working in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies to ensure maximum asset recovery.

Mr. MWIIMBU told journalists at a press briefing in Lusaka today that most offenders will be brought to book as the joint investigations team continues pursuing the cases.

He further reiterated that the investigations are NOT by any means targeted at persecuting perceived opponents but merely to make the suspects account for public resources they allegedly acquired illegally.

Meanwhile Mr. MWIIMBU has directed police to intensify foot and motorised patrols to curb the increasing number of criminal cases in Lusaka.

He has also directed police to mount strategic security check points especially in densely populated areas in a bid to curb criminal acts during the festive season.

Mr. MWIIMBU also disclosed that Government has acquired motor vehicles for police to intensify motorized patrols in the city.
