PIGS SEIZED, DESTROYED

(ZANIS) The Veterinary Department in Kapiri Mposhi District has seized and destroyed pigs valued at over 40,000 Kwacha which were being transported without necessary documentation.

Kapiri Mposhi District Veterinary Officer, JONATHAN SINYINZA has confirmed the development to ZANIS News.

Dr. SINYINZA said the seizure of the animals is in a bid to curb the spread of livestock diseases that have continued to affect the industry in the country due to movement of animals without safety clearance.

He disclosed that the owners of the animals which were being ferried from Ndola to Lusaka did not have necessary documentation on the health condition of the animals to facilitate their movement and a police report as proof they were not stolen.

Dr. SINYINZA has urged livestock farmers and businessmen to ensure they follow the right procedure when transporting animals to various trading points.

He said according to the Animal Health Act Number 27 of the Laws of Zambia, movement of livestock is supposed to be done with proper clearance documentation from the Ministry of Livestock and other relevant offices such as police.
