Hakainde Hichilema the main opposition leader who is facing treason charges with five others say their spirits remain high as they wait for their fate.
Hichilema who heads UPND has been in prison for over a month now but has assured his supporters that it is a passing pharse.
He stated this in his thoughts from prison update below made available to Zambian Eye.
THOUGHTS FROM PRISON
Supporters of the UPND and friends of HH, this is a further assurance that we are well despite our freedoms having been curtailed. Our colleagues and I are in good health despite the many challenging infrastructure needs in our correctional facilities. The officers are trying their best though one hopes that all these resources we are wasting on worthless courses could be deployed to maintenance of infrastructure like these same facilities.
To the extent possible we are following what is going on outside and we would like to urge everyone to continue maintaining peace, love and harmony. We have one country and that country is Zambia. It might not be operating the way we want it to, but we can assure you colleagues that this is just a passing phase. We are on a road hump, with the right leadership, the road ahead can be smooth. From an average 6% growth rate, we are now talking about a contracting economy. Job losses have become the norm rather than the exception. Let us remain steadfast fellow citizens. Let us pray and honour our Lord ceaselessly because what we are facing will need much more than an intervention from those that are willing to sacrifice their lives for the betterment of this country.
As we said previously; we should not allow anyone to break our spirits. They can cause physical harm to us but our spirits remain very high as we continue waiting for our fate. Let us leave you with this verse Psalms 30:5 says “for his anger lasts only a moment, but his favour lasts a lifetime; weeping may remain for a night but rejoicing comes in the morning.”
