Zimbabwe National team coach Sunday Chidzambwa has resigned from his post as the Warriors coach with immediate effect Soccer 24 reports.

The Warriors Chidzambwa handed in his resignation to Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) this afternoon with only days left before Zimbabwe take on Mauritius in the African Nations Championships (CHAN) Qualifiers.

Chidzambwa has been in charge of the Warriors since December 2017. There has been mounting pressure on the coach after failing to bring results at the just-ended Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Zimbabwe qualified to the AFCON for a second successive time after finishing top of the group ahead of DR Congo and Congo Brazzaville but the team was eliminated in the group stages without winning a single match, their worst record at the tournament.

Chidzambwa leaves the post with two COSAFA titles to his name during his time as an interim coach in 2017 and 2018.

ZIFA is yet to issue a statement on the resignation of Chidzambwa. The Warriors will be playing Mauritius on Friday in the first leg of qualifiers.

Zimbabwe has been drawn in Group H of qualifiers for AFCON 2021 alongside African Champions Algeria, 2012 AFCON winners Zambia and neighbors Botswana.
