Numba hints at Were, Rusike stay

Zesco United coach Numba Mumanga gave a hint about the possibility of contract extension for two of his out of contract stars, reveals the ZamFoot Crew.

Kenyan striker Jesse Were and Zimbabwean midfielder Tafadzwa Rusike’s contracts are ending in four days time.

There has been speculation about the future of the two veterans.

Numba named both players in his starting line up for the rescheduled league match against Prison Leopards last Friday.

Were and Rusike helped the Zambian Champions to a 1-0 win over Prison as moved to second on the log, and subsequently earning ‘Team Ya Ziko’ an ABSA Cup slot.

“Everyone knows we are rebuilding but we still need experience. That was the statement from the coach indicating that he wants the boys,” an insider told the ZamFoot Crew from Ndola.

Rusike joined from Zanaco as a free agent while Were has been at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium for this 6 years now having signed from Kenyan side Tusker.

Rusike has featured for Ajax Cape Town. The midfeilder also worked with Numba at Zanaco

The two players were handed 2 year deals in Janauary 2020.

While Jesse Were has struggled for consistent for Harambe Stars, he is a Zesco United legend having won 4 league titles (2017, 2018, 2019 & 2020/21) and 2 ABSA Cups.

The 34 year old has scored over 100 goals in all competitions.
