NP TO ROLL OUT IRRIGATION PROJECT

(ZANIS) The Ministry of Agriculture in Northern Province has directed Agricultural Officers to identify model sites for setting up of smallholder irrigation infrastructure under the Expanded Community-based Smallholder Irrigation project, E-COBSI.

Speaking during the E-COBSI training workshop in Kasama, Northern Province Agricultural Coordinator SYVESTER NYENDWA also called on the District Agricultural Coordinators to replicate the project activities in other areas.

Mr. NYENDWA noted that the Japanese International Cooperation Agency -JICA- funded E-COBSI project has adopted the Smallholder Horticulture Empowerment and Promotion -SHEP- approach which realizes Market Oriented Agriculture.

And Principal Agricultural officer for Northern Province INNOCENT MULAUZI said the government has set up sustainability measures for operational sites beyond the projects Lifespan.
