“NO LAWLESSNESS ON ROADS”

Home Affairs and Internal Security Minister JACK MWIIMBU says the decision to abolish traffic snap check points and only maintain security check points, does not imply tolerating lawlessness on public roads.

Mr. MWIIMBU says it has come to the attention of the ministry that, motor vehicles that are not road worth, unlicensed drivers, and lawlessness on public roads have become a major public concern.

He says officers should ensure they stop any motorist suspected to have committed an offence and charge them accordingly.

Mr. MWIIMBU says members of the public and motorists should note that traffic police officers have a constitutional duty to ensure public safety is not compromised on public roads

He says the ministry has observed with regret that members of the public and motorists are bullying and attacking traffic police officers for ensuring sanity on the public roads.

The Home Affairs and Internal Security Minister says the Zambia police service traffic unit working in conjunction with other stakeholders should continue policing public roads for the safety of the travelling masses and the general public.

AND Mr. MWIIMBU has reiterated his support to the Zambia police service, traffic unit to ensure traffic regulations are enforced to protect citizens.

This is contained in a statement issued to ZNBC news by Home Affairs and Internal Security Public Relations Officer NEPHAS CHIFUTA.
