NO E-GOVT FOR MINISTRY OF LANDS WITHOUT CONSULTATION

Lands Minister ELIJAH MUCHIMA says he will not allow his Ministry to get on to the e-Government system under Smart Zambia without consultation from all stakeholders.

Mr. MUCHIMA says there is need to bring in a new system for land survey, while giving stakeholders a platform to present their submissions before any implementation.

He says his Ministry has been painted black as a result of corruption allegations by officers hence the need to change the narrative.

Mr. MUCHIMA was speaking when a team from the Surveyors Institute of Zambia called on him at his office in Lusaka today.

He said he will require support from all relevant stakeholders to clean up illegalities and bring transparency to the Ministry on land issues.

Mr. MUCHIMA has since appealed to surveyors to reduce overcharging for a service which has resulted in Zambians losing trust in them.

Meanwhile, Surveyors Chapter Chairperson GLENN MWIKA said there is need for transparency among land surveys because the majority, are operating illegally.

Mr. MWIKA said the Surveyor General should indicate who is eligible to survey land because anyone is now masquerading as a land surveyor.

And Surveyors Institute of Zambia President MICHAEL CHILESHE said the institute will frequently engage the Ministry to bring sanity in the land survey sector.
