Government says it is dismayed by the behaviour of some senior members of the opposition Patriotic Front -PF- during the search of former President EDGAR LUNGU’s residence by Police this morning.

Home Affairs and Internal Security Minister JACK MWIIMBU says it is disappointing that some senior members of the PF chose to drag and abuse the name of President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA in a matter he has no hand in.

Mr. MWIIMBU says investigations by the police at the former President’s residence were not targeting Mr. LUNGU but the suspect mentioned in the police report.

He says the search was targeted at former First Lady ESTHER LUNGU on allegations of abduction and theft of motor vehicles.

Addressing the media this afternoon, Mr. MWIIMBU said there is nothing wrong in searching the residence of the former President as the warrant was not for him but his wife who does not enjoy any immunity.

MEANWHILE, Police have recorded a statement from Mrs. LUNGU in a matter involving three motor vehicles and a land title.

Her Lawyer MAKEBI ZULU says they have discussed with Police and made it clear that Mrs. LUNGU is merely a victim.

Mr. ZULU said circumstances under which the motor vehicle was found in her possession have been explained.

Mrs. LUNGU arrived at Woodlands Police Station at about 15:00 hours in the company of Former President EDGAR LUNGU and left at about 18:11 hours.

And Police Service Deputy Spokesperson DANNY MWALE says police received a complaint that Mrs. LUNGU allegedly grabbed three motor vehicles and certificate of title of land between August 8 and August 9, 2022 from a Mrs. ELIZABETH PHIRI of LUSAKA.

Mr. MWALE disclosed this in a statement to ZNBC News in LUSAKA.

He said the motor vehicles allegedly grabbed by Mrs LUNGU are Mitsubishi Canter bearing registration number BAV 5282, Toyota Allex, registration number BAV 3986 and Toyota Runx registration number BLA 9772.

Mr. MWALE further identified the certificate of title of the land allegedly grabbed by Mrs. LUNGU from the complainant as “S/Lusaka/ SLN 0003/2977” located in LUSAKA’s Libala South Water Works area.
