MUSOKOTWANE: INTERNAL AUDITORS SHOULD ADHERE TO GOOD GOVERNANCE

Finance Minister, SITUMBEKO MUSOKOTWANE has challenged Internal Auditors to adhere to practices of good governance.

Dr. MUSOKOTWANE however cautions that in upholding good governance practices and the fight against corruption, internal auditors need not be too extreme to a point where service delivery is crippled.

He says it is unfortunate that money under the Constituency Development Fund -CDF, disbursed in the first quarter, has not been used mainly because of some extreme measures that have been put in place.

Dr. MUSOKOTWANE says being extreme and denying people resources, such as the CDF, meant to better the lives of many Zambians is not fighting corruption but an act of incompetence.

The Minister challenged internal auditors to be innovative by embracing information technologies – IT services to do their work effectively.

Dr. MUSOKOTWANE said this when he officially opened the 8th Africa Federation of the Institutes of Internal Auditors -AFIIA Conference in Livingstone.

And Controller of Internal Audit – Ministry of Finance, CHIBWE MULONDA, said the conference is a useful learning platform for internal auditors to enhance professionalism and prudent utilisation of resources.

Meanwhile, AFIIA Chairperson EMMANUEL JOHANNES and Institute of Internal Auditors – IIA Zambia President, THOMAS KAUNDA, praised the government through the Ministry of Finance for facilitating the hosting of the conference in Zambia.
