MULUNDIKA PUT TO REST

ZANIS—Zambia’s Freedom Fighter, Christine Mulundika has been put to rest at Leopards Memorial Park in Lusaka today.

Mulundika, who died last week on Sunday March 13,2022 aged 80, was buried at the Leopards Memorial Park, after a church service at St Ignatius in Lusaka.

Vice President Mutale Nalumango represented President Hakainde Hichilema in leading other mourners to witness the burial, who included Cabinet ministers and other government officials.

President Hakainde Hichilema in a speech read on his behalf by Vice President Mutale Nalumango said the former freedom fighter will not just be mourned but celebrated because of the exemplary life she lived.

President Hichilema said Late Mulundika spent a large part of her youth actively supporting the independence struggle of mother Zambia.

President Hichilema further noted that in the post independent Zambia, Mulundika was among the few women who served in high leadership positions in UNIP until 1991.

He added that the late Mulundika’s career in the public service began in the late 1960’s and was among the first few Indigenous women to be trained as a Teacher at Minga Teachers training College.

And Zambia United National Freedom Fighters Association Treasurer BETTY CHILUNGA hailed Mrs MULUNDIKA for being the first woman to fight for equal payment of salaries among Men and Women.

Mrs. CHILUNGA said the late freedom fighter will be celebrated for fighting for women to be granted pay during maternity leave.

She adds that Mrs MULINDIKA will be remembered for her dedication to fighting for women and youth’s rights in the country.

And Brother to Mrs MULUNDIKA, JOHN MALILA said the late freedom fighter was a unifier and a leader who brought families together.

And giving a vote of thanks, Chieftainess Nkomesha urged upcoming politicians to serve the interest of the people like what late Mulundika fought for.
