Multiple Registration In Cooperatives

Moombe Hamobola-Some people in Livingstone have allegedly registered their names in more than ten cooperatives in an effort to maximise benefits from the Constituency Development Fund -CDF- grants.

This came to light during a CDF community engagement organized by the Anti Voter Apathy Project -AVAP- in Livingstone’s Nakatindi Ward.

CAROL CHAMA one of the residents asked the Livingstone City Council what would happen to people that have registered in several cooperatives so that they benefit from different projects.

Another Resident JANE SIKABI wanted to find out why the Patents and Company Registration Agency -PACRA- has not issued certificates to cooperatives despite groupings having completed the registration process as early as September last year.

But, Livingstone City Council Public Relations Manager, MELVIN MUKELA said it is wrong for people to register in more than one cooperative as it is denying other residents the opportunity to benefit.

Mr. MUKELA also informed the residents that PACRA has been updating its system to suit the current needs and demands hence the hiccup in issuing certificates.

Speaking at the same event, AVAP Executive Director RICHWELL MULWANI said the community engagement is meant to bridge the gap between the governance systems and the electorate.
