Mugalu joins Zesco, Were renews contract as Akumu departs

Super League defending Champions, Zesco United have announced the acquisition of striker Chris Mugalu from Lusaka dynamos.

According to a media release from Zesco United which was accessed by the ZamFoot Crew, Mugalu and the Ndola based outfit agreed to the deal back in July.

“ZESCO United Football Club wishes to announce the signing of Congolese striker, Chris Mugalu on a two-year contract.

ZESCO United Chief Executive Officer Richard Mulenga disclosed that the club reached an agreement with Mr. Mugalu in July 2019.”

It is with great excitement that we announce the signing of Chris Mugalu on a two-year contract. Mugalu adds to a number of marquee signing that ZESCO United has made in recent years. We are positive Mugalu will add great firepower to our striking force- Mulenga.

Mugalu is expected to join the club this month subject to medical examinations.

Meanwhile, the club has also announced that Kenyan International Jesse Jackson Were has extended his stay at the club for two more years while Midfielder Anthony Akumu has left the club after his contract expired.

The Kenyan duo’s contracts with the club came to an end on December 31st, 2019.

“We are delighted to announce that Jesse Were has extended his stay with us for the next two years. Were has been a key part of this football club’s success as such we are extremely delighted that he has made the right decision to be with us for the next two more years,” disclosed Zesco United CEO Richard Mulenga.

“It is with deep regret that we announce the departure of Kenyan midfielder, Anthony Akumu. The club made a lot of effort to extend Akumu’s contract, unfortunately, the two parties could not reach an agreement. We wish to take this opportunity to thank Akumu for his immense contribution to the success of ZESCO United football club.”

Mugalu’s move to Zesco United has been on the cards for a long time with Lusaka dynamos refuting the rumors ever time it has come up.

For Akumu, He may reunite with former teammate Lazarus Kambole. The 27-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to PSL giants Kaizer Chiefs with ZamFoot Crew sources indicating that he may be unveiled anytime soon in Naturena.
