Mufulira Plans for Milk Depots

The Department of Livestock in Mufulira has called on stakeholders to set up satellite depots for milk collection in the district, to enable more farmers sell their milk.Department of Livestock and Fisheries acting District Coordinator, Mabvuto Mbale  says although many dairy farmers in Mufulira sell their milk to Parmalat Zambia, many fail to deliver their milk to the site due to long distances.Mr. Mbale  says many farmers in the district were producing milk but were unable to deliver it to milk collection center as they live far from the site.He disclosed that currently, Mufulira has 320 dairy cattle, and 128 dairy farmers, but the milk collected at the center is much less than what is supposed to be collected.
