MPS SPEAK OUT AGAINST CHILD MARRIAGES, GBV

By Wilson Mulinda:

A Consortium of 15 Members of Parliament on Comprehensive Sexuality Education has welcomed remarks by President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA calling for strict action against child marriages, teenage pregnancies and Gender Based violence -GBV.

Committee Representative TWAAMBO MUTINTA says many times children miss out on education because they are taken advantage of.

Mr. MUTINTA, who is also Itezhi Tezhi Member of Parliament, says the statement demonstrates President HICHILEMA’s political will to tackle the issues.

Speaking during a press briefing, Mr. MUTINTA called on all MPs to take the message by the Head of State to their constituencies, adding that it would have a huge impact in bringing such behaviour to an end.

Mr. MUTINTA also called for enhanced and concerted efforts to fight the vices.

He urged traditional leaders to take a proactive step in fighting child marriages and teenage pregnancy.

Meanwhile, Keembe Member of Parliament PRINCESS KASUNE said the high statistics should awaken every well meaning Zambian to fight the vices.

And Kafue Member of Parliament MIRRIAM CHONYA called on law enforcement agencies to bring culprits to book.

Ms. CHONYA said she is saddened by a leaked video of a woman being raped in full view of other residents, and has called for strong action.
