M’MEMBE’s matter referred to the High Court

The matter in which Socialist Party President FRED M’MEMBE is charged with communication of classified information has been referred to the High Court for trial.

Principal Magistrate IRENE WISHIMANGA decided to refer the matter to the High Court following the state’s concession to have it moved to the Higher Court.

Earlier, Defence Lawyers said the Magistrate Court has no jurisdiction to try Dr. M’MEMBE’s Communication of Classified Information Case.

This is in a matter where Dr. M’MEMBE is charged with communication of classified information contrary to Section four, subsection three of the State Security Act.

Dr. M’MEMBE, on July 21, 2023 allegedly published on his Facebook page that the name of the appointed Central Joint Operations Committee Chairperson had been changed.
