MISA HOPEFUL OF MEDIA LAW REFORMS

MISA Zambia National Director AUSTIN KAYANDA says the organization is hopeful that the New Dawn government will positively respond to calls by different stakeholders in the country for media law reforms.

Mr. KAYANDA has said MISA Zambia and it’s partners are concerned that technocrats handling the media law reforms are relactant.

He has called on President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA to prevail over the technocrats for media freedoms to become reality.

Mr. KAYANDA was speaking in Livingstone today during the Open Spaces Zambia stakeholders training on media freedom, freedom of expression and reflection on laws impacting media freedom and freedom of expression.

Speaking during the same event, Panos Institute Southern Africa Executive Director, VUSUMUZI SIFILE stated that the enactment of the access to information bill in Zambia will not only help media organisations but private individuals to access information.

He explained that the Access to information bill will enable citizens to exercise their democratic right to access information for them to make informed decisions.
