Millers urged to ensure Mealie Meal availability

President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA has urged millers to ensure there is availability of mealie meal in the country.

President HICHILEMA says it is unfortunate that the country has continued to experience mealie meal deficit which has been caused by among other factors, smuggling.

He however says there is need for the country to increase maize and mealie meal production so that such incidences do recur in the future.

The President said this when he met millers from the Copperbelt, Lusaka, Southern and Eastern Provinces led by Millers Association of Zambia President, ANDREW CHINTALA.

President HICHILEMA further said there is need for the country to depoliticise mealie meal despite the commodity being a heritage issue.

And Mr. CHINTALA assured government that millers will ensure mealie meal is available on the local market.
