Media Liaison Committee welcomes HH’s stance on Information bill

Sharon Kunda-The Media Liaison Committee -MLC- says it looks forward to the enactment of the Access to Information Bill into law as directed by President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA.

Committee Chairperson ENOCH NGOMA says the Access to Information legislation has been pending for over 18 years.

Mr. NGOMA says Access to Information is not only for the media but for the public as it is meant to scrutinize and ensure proper checks and balances are given to authorities.

Speaking to ZNBC news in an interview today, Mr. NGOMA welcomed pronouncements by Information and Media Minister CHUSHI KASANDA that the media’s self regulation mechanism be put in place without delay.

Mr. NGOMA said the draft bill for the Zambia Media Council is already in place and that it will be submitted to the Information Minister by next week.

He said it is important for the Media to have a self regulatory process as the country needs a media that is professional.

Mr. NGOMA further said the National Broadcaster ZNBC needs editorial independence and that there is therefore need to amend the ZNBC Act.
