MAN NABBED FOR STEALING MPEZENI’S CAR KEYS

Police in Chipata have arrested an 18-year man for the theft of motor vehicle keys belonging to Paramount Chief MPEZENI.

Acting Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer DAVIS SIMWANZA says the suspect identified as ZONDWAYO JERE from Paramount Chief MPEZENI’S area allegedly stole the keys on February 24, 2022 when the Paramount Chief moved from Ephendukeni Palace to Laweni for the Nc’wala ceremony.

Mr. SIMWANZA says the suspect also stole safety boots from a vehicle belonging to ZESCO Limited.

He says the suspect was initially apprehended for stealing safety boots and was also found with car keys belonging to the traditional leader.

Mr. SIMWANZA says upon being queried; the suspect revealed that he stole the car keys from Chief MPEZENI.

He says the suspect will appear in court soon.

And Chief MPEZENI has told ZNBC news that the suspect only stole car keys.

He says the suspect attempted to steal the vehicle but did not manage because it had no battery.
