Lungu is using Govt to get at those he has differed with – Kambwili

I’m as clean as Dr. Kaunda’s handkerchief, charged Former Minister of Information Chishimba Kambwili.
Speaking to Journalists today, May 18, 2017 after being interrogated by the Anti-Corruption Commission for being in possession of properties more than what his income, Kambwili said it is sad that President Edgar Lungu is using law enforcement agencies to harass those he has differed with.
And Kambwili complained that it is sad that he has to be subjected to such interrogation after having campaigned with all his heart for President Lungu and PF.
Kambwili has described the corruption allegations as bogus.
He has however explained that the discourse with the ACC officers was good and that he gave them much information adding that it now remains upon them to make a decision.
“They were asking about my cars, they were asking about my houses and I gave them all the information that they wanted unfortunately, they were even asking for properties that I don’t know myself that belongs to me so we shocked with my counsel to find out that some of the properties they were mentioning in Lusaka, Ndola is not my property and I don’t even know those properties,” Kambwili explained. “But I think it leaves much to be desired with our kind of politics in Zambia that if politically you differ, you want to use the arm of the law to fix others. That is not the way it should be. We must learn to be honest with one another. If you don’t want to work with somebody, you just tell them that I don’t to work with you other than bringing in other arms of government to try to intimidate those you don’t like.”
Kambwili charged that intimidating of opponents must come to an end. He is people in Zambia must learn to be honest like he is.
“I have been honest, I have built my reputation over a long period of time and I can tell you that I have left government as a clean manand nobody will point at me.
Kamwili however admitted that there is corruption in the country.
“And for your own information, yes there is corruption everywhere, on the street, in government and those who are corrupt know themselves and when their time comes to answer, they will answer,” he warned.
He added: “but it is very unfortunate to point at clean men like me, very clean politically, economically very clean that there are corrupt.”
The Roan PF Lawmaker says he was surprised that President Lungu had announced that he was going to fire corrupt Ministers and he is only being summoned six months later.
“I was waiting all these six months to see which other Ministers were going to join being fired for being corrupt I’m shocked that upto now there is only Chishimba Kambwili who was being suspected of being corrupt but I will leave it to the anti-corruption to analyse the information we have given them and get back to the country to tell them whether I am corrupt or not but I can rest assure you that am as clean as Dr. Kaunda’s handkerchief,” he said.
Kambwili said he informed the Anti-Corruption aside from him working in government he has been in business for a long time. He said he told the ACC officers to check with companies especially the mines that he does business with what he makes.
Kambwili complained that it is sad that he has to be subjected to such interrogation after having campaigned with all his heart for President Lungu and PF.
“I have left government, I have done my best in government. I campaigned for President Lungu with all my heart but if campaigning for somebody with all your heart is a sin then only God will judge us,” complained Kambwili who is also a member of the PF Central Committee.
