Lungu Asks International Community to Help with Floods

January 20, 2020January 20, 202033By Ruth Chayinda-President Edgar Lungu has called upon the international community to help address the current effects of floods being experienced in some parts of the country.President Lungu made the call when Japanese Ambassador Ryuta Mizuuchi called on him at State House today .He noted that Zambia can learn better practices from Japan on disaster preparedness following that country’s experience.President Lungu , however, said the rains have both positively and negatively affected the country, stating that some people have lost infrastructure and crops while the rains are important for hydropower generation.The Head of State also praised the Japanese Ambassador for visiting various places to identify challenges the people are facing.President Lungu further encouraged Mr Mizuuchi to ensure that he continues to dialogue with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs when faced with challenges.He noted that Zambia and Japan share mutual relations that are translated through numerous projects being undertaken by the Japanese private sector and Zambia .And, Mr Mizuuchi expressed sympathy at the recent incidences of people affected with floods.He, however, expressed hope that the lives of those affected will soon return to normal.Mr. Mizuuchi further said Japan appreciates and is determined to continue strengthening the cordial relations shared between the two countries.
