Local govt service Commission Acting Chairperson dropped

Lazarous Sichula-President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA has with immediate effect revoked the appointment of BEATRICE YEVUKA as acting chairperson of the Local Government Service Commission.

With this revocation, Mrs. YEVUKA’s membership to the Commission has also been nullified with immediate effect.

The Local Government Service Commission has equally been dissolved with immediate effect.

Local Government and Rural Development Minister GARRY NKOMBO says President HICHILEMA has however assured that the appointment of the Local Government Service Commissioners will be set as priority.

He says this is after the President returns from his tour of duty in the United States of America.

Mr. NKOMBO said the responsibility of appointing and disappointing members of any Commission is solely the prerogative of the Head of State.

He says Mrs. YEVUKA assumed the acting chairperson position by virtue of her being the vice chairperson of commission at a time there was a vacancy.

Mr. NKOMBO explains that this was in accordance with the Service Commission Act No.10 of 2016 which provides for this remedy in an instance of a vacancy of commission chairperson.

This is according to a statement issued by Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development Public Relations officer VERONICA KATONGO.
