Livingstone residents clean old cemetery premises

Justin Akakulubelwa-Several residents of Livingstone, today, teamed up with the Livingstone City Council and officers from the Zambia Airforce -ZAF- to clean the Livingstone Old cemetery premises.

A concerned Livingstone Resident, AKALEMWA SUMBWA, says he came up with the initiative in order to keep the cemetery clean.

Mr. SUMBWA has, however, told ZNBC News in an interview that there is a need to impose a fine to anyone found dumping waste at the cemetery, if the place is to be kept clean at all times.

And Keep Livingstone Clean, Green and Healthy Chairperson, BENJAMIN MIBENGE, has encouraged the residents of Livingstone to support the initiative.

Livingstone City Council Assistant Director of Public Health, GREGORY BANDA, says the local authority will intensify inspections to ensure that the cemetery is not turned into a dumpsite.

Mr. BANDA warns of stern action against anyone that will be found dumping garbage at the cemetery.

He has advised the residents of Livingstone to subscribe and utilize the community based entrepreneurs that the council has engaged to collect waste in all residential areas of the Tourist Capital.

Meanwhile, Bishop JANET HART of Church of New Life for All Nations, has appealed to all church leaders in the district to encourage their members and be part of community initiatives aimed at improving the outlook of the town.
