By Justine Akakulubelwa

Livingstone Mayor, CONSTANCE MULEABAI has called for more private-public partnerships in road safety.

Speaking when she commissioned solar-powered automated pedestrian crossing signals on Nakatindi road, Ms. MULEABAI, says being a Tourist Capital, Livingstone needs innovations that can guarantee road safety, especially to the pedestrians.

Ms. MULEABAI says the initiative by Amotech Investments to install solar-powered automated pedestrian crossing signals, will enhance road safety for learners who frequently use the Nakatindi Road pedestrian crossing point.

She has encouraged the innovators to apply for funding under the Constituency Development Funds so that the innovations can be expanded to other areas of the district.

Speaking at the same event, Amotech Investments Managing Director, AMOS FUNGAMELI, said the automated pedestrian crossing traffic lights, are cost effective and easy to maintain.

Mr. FUNGAMELI says if supported, the installation of the automated pedestrian traffic lights will not only save the lives of pedestrians but will also create employment to the youths who will be assembling the equipment.

And Road Traffic and Safety Agency Station Manager, MOYA KAMANGU, has thanked Amotech Investments for complimenting government efforts on road safety.

Meanwhile, Maranatha Adventist School Head Teacher, WARREN MPANDE, says the installation of the solar-powered automated pedestrian crossing signals near the school will guarantee the safety of learners.

Mr. MPANDE says crossing the busy Nakatindi road has been a challenge for learners.
