Lets grow winter maize-Mukonka

By Chansa Kunda-UPND Religious Affairs Committee Chairperson KELLY MUKONKA has appealed to Government to streamline agricultural policies that will support the farming of winter maize.

Mr. MUKONKA says the Ministry of Agriculture should identify land in various parts of the country that will be used to grow winter maize.

He says the call to grow winter maize is as a result of the current prevailing weather patterns that has seen a lack of rainfall in the country.

Mr. MUKONKA says winter maize is one initiative if realized will ensure that the country is food secure and become an all weather exporter.

And speaking to ZNBC News, Mr. MUKONKA has called on the church to pray for a good rainfall season so that enough yields can be stocked in the food basket.

He said the clergy should also use the pulpit to encourage the flock on the keep the reaming grain from last season bumper harvest so that they don’t run out of the maize grain.

Mr. MUKONKA further urged clergy to inform members on the importance of the current debt restructuring that Government has undertaken.
