By Hannock Kasama

Lusaka Businessman SHADRICK KASANDA and his co-accused in the espionage case linked to the alleged Gold Scam have been granted K500, 000 bail each by the LUSAKA High Court.

The Court has however ordered Mr. KASANDA and four other accused to surrender their passports to the Registrar of the High Court and provide two working sureties as part of the bail conditions.

Mr. KASANDA’s co-accused are LUSAKA Businessman JIM BELEMU, KENNETH KAUNDA International Airport Police Commanding Officer ROBSON MOONGA, State Security Officer FRANCIS MATEYO and Commercial Pilot PATRICK KAWANU.

The High Court last week allowed the application by the state to conduct trial of Mr. KASANDA’s alleged Gold Scam Espionage Case in camera.

LUSAKA High Court Judge RUTH CHIBBABBUKA sitting with two other judges -CHARLES ZULU and SITUMBEKO CHOCHO delivered the ruling.

Judge CHIBBABBUKA said the state’s contention that trial of Mr. KASANDA’s espionage case in open court shall be prejudicial to the interest of the country.
