Kasanda expects open engagement with media stakeholders

Ruth Chayinda-Information and Media Minister CHUSHI KASANDA says she looks forward to open and constructive engagement with media stakeholders in developing the media industry in the country.

Ms. KASANDA says the Zambian people have high expectations from the ‘new dawn’ Government to deliver on their aspirations.

She was speaking today when the Independent Broadcasting Authority -IBA- and the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation -ZNBC- management teams called on her at her office at Government Complex in Lusaka.

Ms KASANDA called on players in the media industry to work with Government in creating an informed populace.

The Courtesy calls are part of a series of meetings that the Minister has lined up with stakeholders in the media industry to familiarize herself with their operations.

The IBA team was led by Director General JOSEPHINE MAPOMA while the ZNBC delegation was led by Director General MALOLELA LUSAMBO.

And Ms. MAPOMA said the broadcasting sector continues to grow with the number of radio stations now standing at 1-hundred and 46 and 52 television stations countrywide.

She added that the process to amend the IBA Act is underway to make it responsive to other aspects of the broadcasting industry.

Meanwhile Mr. LUSAMBO said the corporation is implementing various measures to enhance its operations under the 2021 – 2025 Strategic Plan.

The measures include re-conceptualization of some of ZNBC channels to attract more adverts for revenue generation.
