Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) President Andrew Kamanga says despite the setbacks around the international games and possible camps that have fallen through, the Association is confident the team will triumph in Tokyo.

In his weekly FAZ President’s Corner, FAZ President Andrew says it is not easy to keep a team in residential camp for three months and keep them focused on the job.

Kamanga states that the Copper Queens, who are in Group F with Brazil, Netherlands and China, are in the final stages of preparations for Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games which will kick-off on July 21.

“Our Copper Queens are also in the final stages of preparations for Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Despite the setbacks around the international games and possible camps that have fallen through, we are confident that the team will triumph in Tokyo,” Kamanga said.

The FAZ president is confident that the two international friendly matches the Copper Queens played against Chile and South Africa provided stern tests for the squad.

“It is not easy to keep a team in residential camp for three months and keep them focused on the job. They have played Chile and South Africa in international friendly matches which itself provided stern tests for the squad,” he stated.

Kamanga reveals that Covid-19 has put so many barriers in international football, but FAZ remains resolute in keeping the game going under the strain of the pandemic.

“Covid-19 has put so many barriers in international football, but we will remain resolute in keeping the game going under the strain of the pandemic.”

He has urged all Zambian teams engaging in international tournaments to do their best as a befitting honour to the late former First Republican President Dr. Kenneth Kaunda.

“We urge all our teams engaging in international tournaments to do their best as a befitting honour to KK.”
