KABOMBO PRISON CONGESTED

By Lupindula Mwewa

KABOMBO Correctional Facility in North Western Province is dilapidated and congested with over 120 inmates currently sharing a cell meant for 45 people.

KABOMBO Officer-in-Charge Superintendent STEPHEN KAKOLI says the overcrowded Correctional facility is now inhabitable for inmates.

Mr. KAKOLI says the Prison service is building an open air facility at a new site to decongest the Correctional facility.

Speaking when Home Affairs and Internal Security Minister JACK MWIIMBU visited the facility, Mr KAKOLI called on the government to construct a new prison facility for inmates in the district.

And Mr. MWIIMBU said the government is aware of the infrastructure challenges in most prisons countrywide.

He said the government will look into the matter and find ways of ensuring that inmates are accommodated in decent structures.
