K16m Needed to Electrify 4 Schools in Chadiza

By Patricia Banda -Energy Minister Matthew Nkhuwa says 16 million Kwacha is needed to electrify four secondary schools in Chadiza district in Eastern province.Mr. Nkhuwa says when resources are available, Naviruli, Taferansoni, Chanjone and Bwanunkha Secondary schools will be electrified.He says government through the Rural Electrification Authority -REA- has been electrifying schools across the country where there is need.Mr. Nkhuwa was speaking in parliament today in response to Kantanshi Member of Parliament Anthony Mumba, who expressed concern over pupils not learning Information and Communication Technology- ICT- lessons because of lack of electricity.Mr. Nkhuwa also responded to Mazabuka Central Member of Parliament Garry Nkombo who insisted that Government has money to electrify schools but is not just willing to do so.The energy minister said his ministry only has one source of funding which is from the Ministry of Finance and that if resources are not released, projects cannot progress.
