It went according to plan- Haalubono

Green Buffaloes Women’s Football Club head coach Charles Haalubono says the team’s opening game of the ongoing TotalEnergies CAF Champions League went according to plan. 

Haalubono says the team started slow but quickly picked up and the goals started flowing. 

Haalubono wants to see an improvement in the attacking department because his side missed a lot of chances. 

“It was a good performance, We managed to get a win according to the way we planned,” Haalubono told the ZamFoot Crew.

“First games are always tricky. We had a slow start. They picked up and they started moving the ball the way we planned. It worked and gave us goals.  Our plan was to get an early goal because we did not know how they would play.” 

“We still have a challenge in finishing, so we have to work on composure . Yes we don’t have enough time but we have to improve and the defense we had moments where the goalkeeper was exposed, we need to work on such,” he added. 

Young striker Natasha Nanyangwe scored a goal and could have had more but Haalubono is not worried as she keeps getting into good positions and just needs to work in her composure. 

Haalubono’s side will next face tournament hosts ASFAR on 2 November at 21h00. The gaffer says his team will plan for the encounter against the technically and tactically sound Moroccan outfit. 

“Yes, I am happy, they played well. We appreciate, the plan was for midfielders to join, they did very well,” he said.

“The most important is being found in good positions, Natasha Nanyangwe is doing that , the only thing needed to work on is composure in front of goal.”

“Those two teams are very good tactically and technically they are so good. We will work on our plan and be able to challenge them,” he added. 

The female Computer, Ireen Lungu was voted as the player of the match after being involved in all four goals. 

The Copper Queens midfield magician says the award has boosted her morale and has already set her eyes on Wednesday’s game.

“It made me feel good because I have been working so hard. Yes, it has boosted me and the team, I dedicated the award to the team because alone I can’t do it,” she said. 

“My target is to win the next game. I think if we win the next game we will have hope that we can reach the next semifinals.”

“I think we have to utilize our chances because we missed a lot of them.”

Maweta Chilenga, Natasha Nanyangwe and Hellen Chanda scored a goal each while goalkeeper Jackie Touah put Ireen Lungu’s shot behind her own net as Green Buffaloes Women’s Football Club thrashed Liberia’s Determine Girls at the Stade Moulay Hassan in Rabat.
