International Friendly: Zambia score late to beat Sudan

Full Time: Sudan 0 – 1 Zambia (Amity Shamenda 88′)

The Zambia national soccer team finally picked a win in their fourth friendly match on the current tour of West Africa and Sudan when they beat Sudan 1 – 0 in Khartoum.

Coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojević made four changes to the team that lost 3 – 2 to the hosts on Friday naming Gregory Sanjase ahead of Mwenya Chibwe in goal, Benedict Chiepeshi coming in for Makabaniso Magenge, Salulani Phiri for Golden Mafwenta and Roger Kola for Moses Phiri.

Sudan dominated most of the game and controlled the game but their poor finishing in front of goal cost them.

Zambia struggled to create clear chances but looked good when it came to playing in the midfield.

Micho tweaked his approach in the second half when he brought in Collins Sikombe in place of Kola.  With Brian Mwila taking up the central attacking role and Sikombe playing a free role behind him, Zambia looked far much better in the second half and they created more chances.

However, Zambia only got their goal late in the game when substitute Amity Shamenda miscued a cross from the right. Fortunately the looping ball dropped in at the far post leaving Mohammed Mustafa in the Sudan goal with no chance.

Sanjase was brilliant on his debut as he made crucial saves and interventions to keep out the hosts and ensure that Micho’s team collects one win from the four games played on this tour of international friendly matches.
