INMATE APPEALS FOR PARDONS

An inmate, who is serving a 35 years old sentence at the Kamfinsa correctional facility in Kitwe, has appealed to President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA to consider pardoning more inmates who are saving various sentences to decongest correctional facilities.

JOSEPH NJOVU says pardoning more inmates, who have reformed can help reduce congestion and other challenges in correctional facilities.

Mr. NJOVU made this appeal when Copperbelt Minister ELIASHA MATAMBO witnessed the release of 70 inmates President HICHILEMA pardoned yesterday.

Those pardoned at Kamfinsa correctional facility are 62 male and eight females.

Copperbelt Minister ELIASHA MATAMBO says the head of state has shown love and care by pardoning the Inmates who have reformed.

Speaking at Kamfinsa correctional facility in Kitwe when he donated an assortment of food staffs and football kits to inmates, Mr. MATAMBO said the UPND Government is committed to uplifting the welfare of inmates.

The Copperbelt Minister further cautioned those pardoned NOT to commit crimes but to be productive so that they can contribute to the development of the country.

And Zambia Correctional Service Regional commanding officer for the Copperbelt JAMES NKOLOMA thanked the head of state for pardoning inmates who have reformed in various correctional facilities across the country.

Mr. NKOLOMA said the correctional facility is conducting various projects such as production units which has helped improve the diet of inmates.
