IMPLEMENT AU TREATIES-MALANJI

By Mwila Nsofu:Foreign Affairs Minister Joseph Malanji has called for the speedy ratification and implementation  of  African Union treaties, protocols and Summit decisions.Speaking during the launch of the revamped AU Treaties webpage at the African Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Mr. Malanji expressed concern at the slow pace and rate of ratification which he attributed to lack of access and information on AU Treaties.Mr. Malanji however expressed optimism that the revamped webpage would facilitate access to updated information on AU treaties to a wide range of stakeholders.He praised the African Union Commission, UNDP and the Government of Sweden for the initiative.And African Union Commission Chairperson, Mousa Faki Mahamat emphasized the need for African countries to ratify treaties for speedy implementation of AU programmes.Zambia holds the position of Vice Chairperson of the Ministerial Committee on Challenges of Ratification and Implementation of AU Treaties.This is according to a statement released to ZNBC News by First Secretary for Press and Tourism at the Zambian Embassy in Ethiopia Inutu Mwanza.
