Ignore opposition calls to repeal public order act, YALI urges govt

Hector Simfukwe-The Young African Leaders Initiative -YALI- President ANDREW NTEWEWE has urged government not to entertain calls from the UPND to repeal the Public Order Act .

Mr. NTEWEWE says UPND Members of Parliament refused to support efforts to amend the Constitution, Public Order and Electoral Act.

He says the country cannot now start repealing laws just because it suits the opposition party.

Mr. NTEWEWE told ZNBC News that opposition parties who sabotaged the Constitutional making process should be ready to operate with the confines of the Public Order Act and Electoral act in current form.

He said pleas by Justice Minister GIVEN LUBINDA for people to support changes to the constitutions and public order act were ignored.

Mr. NTEWEWE was responding to calls by Livingstone UPND Member of Parliament for government to bring back the Public Order Act to parliament for repeal with the view of levelling the political field.

And Deputy Chief Whip TUTWA NGULUBE said the calls by Mr. JERE vindicates those who supported changes to the Constitution and Public Order Act.

Mr. NGULUBE said it is shocking that those who refused to repeal the Public Order and Electoral act few months ago are today demanding that the same laws be changed.

He said it will be in the interest of the Public for government not to entertain such calls.
