IBA calls for support of ATI bill

The Independent Broadcasting Authority-IBA has called on ZAMBIANS from all walks of life and parliamentarians to support the Access to Information Bill recently presented in the National Assembly.

Acting Director General EUSTACE NKANDU says the bill is a milestone toward enhancing freedom of expression in ZAMBIA.

He says ZAMBIANS must enthusiastically make their preferred submissions on the bill before the Parliamentary Committee.

Mr.NKANDU has also challenged parliamentarians to rise above partisan interest and support the various stages of the Access to Information Bill in the National Assembly.

He said this in an interview with ZNBC News in LUSAKA .

And, Media Institute of Southern AFRICA -MISA Zambia Chairperson LORRAINE MWANZA praised government for presenting the Access to Information Bill in the National Assembly.

Ms . MWANZA says legal reforms are inevitable to enhance press freedom.

Meanwhile FRIEDRICH EBERT STIFTUNG acknowledged that the Access to Information Bill once enacted into law will enable journalists, have easy access to information critical to political, social and economic development.

The Access to Information Bill was presented for First Reading in the National Assembly on November 10, 2023 by Information and Media Minister CORNELIUS MWEETWA.
