HH WANTS CLIMATE CHANGE EFFECTS ON WOMEN ADDRESSED

President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA says there is need to address the challenges that women and girls face due to the adverse effects of climate change.

President HICHILEMA says government fully acknowledges the effects that climate change has had on the communities especially women.

He said Government is determined to address these challenges by finding solutions to the increasing threats that women and the public are faced with.

President HICHILEMA was speaking during the commemoration of the International women’s day at the Showgrounds in Lusaka.

And Acting Secretary to Cabinet PATRICK KANGWA said improving the welfare and participation of women is enshrined in the national Development manifesto.

Mr KANGWA notes that the President HICHILEMA decision to grace the women’s days celebration shows how much his government is committed to promoting women’s right and empowerment.

He said there is need to push the agenda to improve the status of women when the country is faced with adverse effects of climate change and covid 19.

Speaking at the same event, United Nations Resident Coordinator COUMBA MAR GADIO applauded the UPND leadership for the bold decision to increase the Constituency Development Fund.

Dr. GADIO also commended Government for supporting national wide efforts to advance women inclusion in key positions which has been seen by various appointments made.

And the US Charge D’Affaires SHERLY STUMBRAS said her country is willing continue to supporting Zambia to attain gender equity and equality.

Ms SHERYL said that the international women’s day should be an opportunity for women to voice out issues that continue to affect their welfare.

And NGOCC Chairperson MARY MULENGA said there is need for boldness in the leadership of the UPND so that they bring about gender equity and equality to enable the country attain the sustainable development goals.
