President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA has brokered a deal between ruling and opposition political parties in the Kingdom of Lesotho to restart reforms following last year’s elections.

The political parties reached a consensus after President HICHILEMA met them in separate meetings in the Lesotho capital Maseru yesterday.

In his capacity as Chairman of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Corporation, President HICHILEMA was in Lesotho to asses the situation in the country following the reform process which was agreed after last year’s elections.

Announcing the resolutions to journalists after he held meetings with both the ruling and opposition political parties in Lesotho yesterday, President HICHILEMA said following the agreement by all political players, reforms will now come back on the agenda.

President HICHILEMA says the reforms must be implemented as soon as possible to strengthen democratic institutions in the Kingdom.

And Lesotho Prime Minister SAMUEL MATEKANE assured President HICHILEMA that the process to start the reform process will commence soon.

Mr. MATEKANE said most or the problems the Kingdom are facing hinge on lack of reforms.

Meanwhile, President HICHILEMA says SADC hopes that the general elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo next month will be free, fair and peaceful.

President HICHILEMA says the regional body wants a peaceful election in the DRC so that the nation can have stability.

He also disclosed that the SADC Report on the recently held harmonized elections in Zimbabwe will be on the agenda during the SADC Summit to be hosted by Angola tomorrow.

President HICHILEMA says the matter was scheduled to be discussed during a virtual SADC meeting held by heads of state earlier this week but it was not attended to.
