HH Challenges youth to be proactive
Prince Chiyuni-President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA has challenged youths to be proactive, in order to access the various youth empowerment programmes that Government has introduced.
President HICHILEMA says the new Government remains committed to improving the welfare of youths by implementing the national youth Development strategy aimed at addressing challenges facing the youths.
The Head of State says this is why Government is revising the National Youth Development policy of 2015, to make it more responsive to the needs of the youths.
President HICHILEMA was speaking in a speech read on his behalf by Vice President MUTALE NALUMANGO, during the official opening of the 2022 National Youth Indaba in Lusaka.
The President further said platforms such as the Youth Indaba, gives an opportunity to reflect and re-position the role of the youths in national development.
President HICHILEMA urged the youths not to take the National Youth Indaba as a social gathering, but a serious platform aimed at contributing to Government’s development agenda.
And Youth, Sport and Arts Minister, ELVIS NKANDU said his Ministry working with cooperating partners has introduced a number of youth empowerment programmes.
Mr. NKANDU said the UPND Government will never take young people for granted for the role they played in ushering the party into office.
He said Government is working tirelessly to ensure that the promises made to the youths come to fruition.
And speaking at the same event, United Nations Resident Coordinator, COUMBA MAR GADIO commended the Government for hosting the National Youth Indaba, which brought together youths from all the 10 Provinces.
Dr. MAR GADIO disclosed that the UN with support from its cooperating partners has mobilized five million Kwacha to help Government to actualize it’s National Youth Development Strategy.
She has also commended the Government for allocating 10 percent of the CDF towards youth empowerment programmes.
The 2022 National Youth Indaba is being held under the theme: Enhancing Youth Participation at All Levels of National Development.
