HH ARRIVES IN LONDON FOR KING CHARLES III CORONATION

 

President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA is in the United Kingdom ahead of tomorrow’s historical coronation of King CHARLES III and Queen consort CAMILLA.

The coronation of King CHARLES III will take place at London’s Westminster Abbey on Saturday, May 6, 2023.

President HICHILEMA who is accompanied by the First Lady MUTINTA HICHILEMA arrived in London at 07:30 hours local time.

President HICHILEMA will be among world leaders, international dignitaries and charity workers invited to attend the coronation ceremony of King Charles III.

Buckingham Palace confirmed that 203 countries will be represented by approximately 100 Heads of State and other dignitaries at the coronation ceremony.

King Charles III, formerly known as the Prince of Wales, became King after the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II who died on September 8, 2022.

The coronation serves as a religious ceremony were Charles’s new status as King will be formalised.

Meanwhile, according to statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, President HICHILEMA is today expected to participate in an exclusive pre-Coronation Summit of Commonwealth Heads of State and government with King Charles III, as the new Head of the Commonwealth.

The event which will be convened by Commonwealth Secretary General PATRICIA SCOTLAND, will provide a timely opportunity for the Commonwealth leaders to collectively deliberate and reflect on the shared future of the organisation.

On the margins of the Coronation, the President is expected to hold high level bilateral meetings with other world leaders, providing valuable avenues for increased cooperation with international partners.
