HAIMBE:WHY DIDN’T PF ADMINISTRATION PROSECUTE MURDER OF LAWRENCE BANDA?

By Sharon Kunda

Justice Minister MULAMBO HAIMBE says the trial involving former Patriotic Front Deputy Secretary General MUMBI PHIRI was transparently undertaken through the criminal justice system.

Mr. HAIMBE says those accusing Government of using law to punish its opponents need to be objective.

He has questioned why the murder case was not prosecuted when it was committed in 2019 and whether there was a political motive to it.

Mr. HAIMBE says the decision of the high court with relation to SHEBBY CHILEKWA’s conviction speaks volumes and that this is where the people of Zambia must focus.

He says those who want to push a narrative of law fare should be responsible to the people of Zambia and explain why there was a gap in the prosecution of criminal matters.

Speaking to ZNBC News in Lusaka, the Justice Minister says there is need to get Justice for all other persons who lost their lives in similar circumstances.

And, Mr. HAIMBE has stated that the Director of Public Prosecution enjoys exclusive mandate to prosecute criminal matters on behalf of the people of Zambia.

He said that the Constitution specifically provides for the power of the DPP to enter a nolle prosequi without giving any reasons to anyone to do so.
