GRACE CHANDA PLAYER OF THE 2021 SEASON

Copper Queens and Red Arrows Striker GRACE CHANDA has been crowned the best Player of the 2021 season in Women’s football.
CHANDA who had a sublime season after netting 35 goals from 26 games was the undisputed winner of the top scorer of the year award as she bagged two accolades during the inaugural Women in Football Awards Gala on Friday night.
The awards held by the Football Association of Zambia -FAZ- saw Green Buffaloes women’s club dominate the gala as Defender LUSHOMO MWEEMBA Goalkeeper AISHA MBWANA and midfielder JOANA BENAYA each emerged winners in their various categories.
Other winners saw Red Arrows Midfielder MARY WILOMBE scoop the Most Disciplined Player of the Season.
Buffaloes Coach CHARLES HAALUBONO was crowned Coach of the Year for leading the Zambia-Army sponsored side to their first FAZ Women’s Super League title with three games to spare.
Other winners of the night were, EVARINE KATONGO as Young Player of the Year, while Midfielder MARY MWAKAPILA received the FAZ President’s Award in absentia for her contribution to the success of the Copper Queens that saw them represent Africa at the 2020
okyo Olympic Games.
And Provincial leagues also recognized their best players while an auction was held to raise funds for women in football and three jerseys for Copper Queens skipper BARBARA BANDA and Chipolopolo players PATSON DAKA and ENOCK MWEPU were successfully auctione
.
BANDA’s Jersey was sold at 4,500 Kwacha, while DAKA’s was 6,700 Kwacha, with MWEPU’s jersey purchased at 5,500 kwacha.
MEANWHILE, National Sports Council of Zambia -NSCZ- Chairperson PATRICK MUTIMUSHI who was Guest of honor said equality in the participation of women in sport must be promoted.
MUTIMUSHI said every girl child’s aspiration to take up sport must be supported as they too can earn money as notably seen by most women players who are now plying their trade abroad.
He further thanked -FAZ- and the various sponsors for successfully staging the award gala.
